James Ihaka, Jarrod Booker and Andrew Koubaridis NZ Herald Another big aftershock measuring 5.1 has shaken Canterbury this morning after a sleepless night for many residents with at least 10 other tremors.
There have been reports of fresh damage with power cut to some areas of the central city and security alarms going off as it is restored.
Some traffic lights are out and police have been directing traffic at some intersections.
The state of emergency in Christchurch is likely to remain in place today as authorities warn of more aftershocks to come. Civil Defence has issued a warning that an aftershock of six is possible in the next few days.
